Mission
The purpose of education and training in our department is to raise individuals who have basic mathematical knowledge and independent thinking ability with different perspectives, can predict problems, address potential problems, produce potential solutions, think comprehensively and abstractly, have self-confidence to contribute to the development of society and science.
Students of the Mathematics Department acquire the skills of abstraction, generalization, proofing, problem solving, representing the quantities with numbers, symbols and graphics, and the method of thinking and reason that brings them to the correct, precise information. In this context, the Department of Mathematics aims to raise individuals who are seeking, questioning, researching, analyzing, imaginative, determined and committed to their national values.
Vision
It strives to be a leading mathematics department in the way of producing knowledge and applying the education it has in real life with its academic structure that constantly renews and develops itself with its qualified scientific studies, as well as the new research areas emerging as a result of developing science and technology.
Establishment of the Department
The Department of Mathematics was opened within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 2009 and began its education in 2010 by taking its first students to the daytime and secondary education program. The Department of Mathematics today is in charge of Analysis and Functions Theory, Geometry, Algebra and Number Theory, Topology, Applied Mathematics; it continues its scientific research activities as well as undergraduate and graduate education in daytime education with its staff of 1 Associate Professor, 8 Assistant Professors, 2 Research Assistants.
Structure and Purpose of the Department
The Department of Mathematics consists of seven departments: Analysis and Functions Theory, Geometry, Algebra and Number Theory, Topology, Fundamentals of Mathematics, and Logic, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, with a staff of 1 Associate Professor, 2 Research Assistants currently working in these departments, providing education, training and scientific research activities in undergraduate and graduate programs.
While the aim of the Department of Mathematics is to provide students with theoretical knowledge in the field of basic mathematics, in practice, it is also important the provide students with help and equip them with necessary knowledge to develop their skills of discussion, criticism, identifying new problems and producing knowledge in solving them. Mathematics graduates can work in computer-based jobs in private or public institutions, as they provide the basic knowledge and skills necessary to work in the computer field. Those who are trained in the field of Applied Mathematics can take part in many official institutions, especially TUIK. Mathematicians are needed in research fields in computing, banking, business-commerce, social and basic sciences. Graduates can also work as teachers in secondary education, private high schools and educational institutions under the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of National Education.
The Future Plans for The Department
The Department of Mathematics is a department that educates scientists with a four-year education. Our students can obtain the right to become a teacher by obtaining Pedagogical Formation Education Certificate. Mathematics Department students acquire the skills of abstraction, generalization, proofing, problem solving, representing quantities with numbers, symbols and graphics, and the method of thinking and reason that leads them to accurate and precise information. In this context, the Department of Mathematics aims to raise individuals who are seeking, questioning, researching, analyzing, imaginative, determined and committed to their national values.
